Concept 1
1. The first Conceptual for the Biophilic Student Accommodation project was made of two long curved structures comprising of student room units. The glazed frame joining the structures enclosed an atrium. The atrium served as a communal and circulatory area within the building. It was intended to hold indoor plants that would be supported by sunlight from above, hence the glazed ceiling. The landscape design for this project was meant to provide recreational and physical activity for students living in the accommodation.
The biophilic objectives were therefore going to be met through the landscape design, the indoor vegetation and the natural lighting through windows and glazed areas. The curved nature of the building was also intended to make the structure feel flowy and natural instead of rigid and formal with straight edges.
Concept 2
2. The second conceptual is a straight-edged housing design ensemble. It encloses a quadrangle in the middle as is common with University structures. It is made up of several communal areas that can be shared by students. The design also portrays a lush landscape design that can be enjoyed by the students. The biophilic aspirations of this design considered roof gardens, indoor gardens, water features, natural light and ventilation.
